Join us and help kick off Read Across America this coming Friday, February 26th @ 6PM! Our PTA presents Horton Hears a Who!
During the movie the 3rd graders will be sponsoring the concession stand. There will be candy, hot dogs, and drinks for sale. All proceeds will help fund the admission to this year's 3rd grade field trip.
I am unable to attend this event although I would LOVE to be there with you! I am going to be at the Southern California Kindergarten Conference learning all sorts of new strategies to help engage and enrich your children!

Valentine's Day
What a great day we had on Friday! My morning started out by receiving a long stem rose from each student as they walked through the door! This was such a wonderful surprise! :) Earlier in the week one of the students said, "I can't wait to give her the surprise on Friday!" It never crossed my mind that they would do something like this! THANK YOU! These were my roses in the vase that another mom brought for them!
Isn't this cute! One of my creative mothers made this...
Isn't this cute! One of my creative mothers made this...
...all of my little ones signed this (minus one who's been sick and in the hospital-Get well soon buddy!)
They're all packed up and ready to go!
Two girls having a good time icing their cupcakes!
Having fun playing Valentine BINGO!
...More BINGO
Now this little one was getting serious! Too cute watching them get technical with their icing. They didn't want to make any mistakes! (Thank you Mrs. Castillo for helping them at this station!)
Stuffing her Valentine's into her classmates Valentine bags (Thank you Mrs. Aquino for helping the students find one anothers bags)!
Hanging out while at the graphing station.
Graphing Conversation Hearts (Thank you Mrs. Huerta for helping these kids sort and graph their different colored hearts!)
More fun with graphing!
Enjoying their cupcakes and apple juice!
Hopefully you could see through these pictures that the kids had a great afternoon. We graphed Conversation Hearts (Math), passed out Valentines by locating and matching student names (Reading), decorated cupcakes by following oral directions (Reading), and played Valentine BINGO by matching letters, pictures, and words (Reading)! I love every minute with these kids! They always keep me smiling!

Principal's Award
Aaron was our first student to complete not only the Kindergarten Sight-Word book but 1st grade book as well. Our kindergarten book has 176 sight-words in it (22 lists with 8 words on each) while the first grade sight-words book has 220 words (22 lists of 10). We are very proud of Aaron and look forward to watching him continue flourishing as a reader and others in the class making the same extraordinary accomplishment! Last Friday, Mrs. Sims, our principal, called Aaron to the office to test him on random words throughout both books and then presented him with a "Principal's Award." She then came back to our class and represented him with the award in front of his peers. Keep it up!
Lost Tooth
Today's exciting moment was Kaiya losing her second tooth! She shared with the class this morning that it was really loose. A few hours later she asked to go to the restroom and came back with a tooth in hand! We packaged it up so she could get it home safely and played the "Tooth" song for her!
We have been working on a unit titled Red, White, and Blue and colored pictures of bald eagles this morning upon entering the classroom! We added them to our Concept/Question board which already had our hand prints in red, white, and blue, and read A Flag for our Country. We learned many new things about our country's first flag such as it was ordered by General George Washington at the end of the war with England. It had 13 stars shaped in a circle to symbolize the 13 original colonies along with the 13 stripes in red and white. Betsy Ross drew and sewed the first flag and it was liked by so many that she was asked to sew more!
In Math, we began our Topic #9 on "Numbers between 20 and 30." We read our interactive story together and then worked on them individually at our desks.
For reading, we continued working on blending words together and creating new words by changing the final sound. For example: If I said the word mean and asked you to change the ending sound to /t/, the new word would be meat! Changing the ending sound on cat to a /p/ sound would make it cap.
We also read the poem titled America the Beautiful which was written to express America's beauty. I then played the song for the students and we sang it several times through! Our new vocabulary word was "brotherhood." Students learned that this included boys, girls, men, and women! When discussing the line, from sea to shining sea, I brought down the United States map and showed the students the Pacific Ocean on the West coast where we live and the Atlantic Ocean on the East coast. This helped them to see that America was mostly the land in between the two! All in all, it was a jam-packed day full of intense new concepts!
I'm sorry this post is all out of order... I'm having trouble cutting and pasting in a live view and will either need to figure it out or put it together differently tomorrow!

100th Day of School
These are a few our our group shots from our 100th day of school! We had so much fun and surprises throughout the day. I think that the students enjoyed themselves as much as I did!
Our principal ordered these glasses from the Oriental Trading Company for all of the kindergarteners to make. We put the basic parts together because the frilly tassles would not stick with glue like the directions suggested. They look cute on the kids but were a bit too big!
As the kids walked into the classroom in the morning, they were greeted by a "Red Carpet" entrance! I created an A-B-C-D pattern from 1-100!
Under Construction
Welcome to our class blog! I will be adding info. and pictures soon! Feel free to share this site with your family and friends as I'll be updating it often and they can see what we do each and every day in school!
